Hundreds caught at illegal border crossings
Banteay Meanchey provincial police intercepted hundreds of Cambodian laborers as they tried to cross illegally to Thailand over the weekend. Provincial deputy police chief Ork Samnok said there had been a surge in workers trying to cross after Khmer New Year. “Our provincial officers cooperated with border police to prevent illegal laborers attempting to cross,” Mr. Samnok said. “Over four days we stopped about 400 to 500 people who were seeking risky jobs in Thailand.” He said his forces were joined by officers from border police unit 911 located in O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrou district.
